Thaiwoo, China, December 14, 2019 –Mikaël Kingsbury skied to a second place finish while Justine Dufour-Lapointe stood tall in third spot for the women at Saturday’s single Mogul World Cup event in Thaiwoo, China.
After winning the mogul event last weekend in Ruka, Finland – the first competition of the 2019-20 FIS World Cup season – Kingsbury took the silver medal in China with a final-run score of 86.29 missing the gold medal spot by .6.
After getting the top score in qualifications, Kingsbury had to settle for second place behind Ikuma Horishima of Japan who is “a good friend and fierce competitor” according to Kingsbury. Mik’s strategy on the last run was to “push a bit more” however Ikuma outran Kingsbury to take the top spot. Benjamin Cavet of France rounded out the men’s podium.
Justine Dufour-Lapointe felt “the course was a real challenge” and although she struggled with shin pain in the morning, she “dug deep and really focused” to get her first podium of the season. “I am really proud of myself and my team. It helps a lot to have a podium before Christmas”.
Tomorrow brings another chance for Canadian athletes with a dual mogul event will take place on the same course closing out the last leg of the World Cup for the mogul athletes before the Christmas holidays.
