Freestyle Canada Statement on the passing of Dr. Francis Fontaine

The Freestyle Canada family was devastated to learn this morning of the passing of Dr. Francis Fontaine.  Dr. Fontaine had long served as a medical consultant for Freestyle’s National Team programs dating back to 2012.  He had also served as the co-lead for both Pyeongchang 2018 and Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games and until most recently as Freestyle Canada’s co-lead in oversight of the medical program.

“His dedication to the program and athletes was undeniable and his ability to connect with and earn the deep trust of the athletes was exceptional.” Noted Todd Allison the High Performance Director for the program.

“Francis was an exceptional partner in assisting our athletes in the management of their injuries.  His gregarious yet deeply caring nature made him much beloved by those he treated and our community in general.” stated Peter Judge the CEO of Freestyle Canada. “His big heart, smile and caring nature will be deeply missed.”

The thoughts and hearts of the Freestyle Community are with his family – wife Marie-Christine Gougux and three children, Alexandre, Eloise and Vincent.
