Dylan Deschamps Wins Bronze to Kick Off the 2024-2025 FIS Freeski Season

 Calgary, AB – October 20, 2024

Freestyle Canada athlete Dylan Deschamps secured a bronze medal in Big Air at the start of the 2024-2025 FIS Freeski season in Chur, Switzerland. The event took place at a city venue with a scaffolding ramp, creating an exciting atmosphere with spotlights, a light show, and music.

Deschamps, who entered the finals as the second seed, overcame a crash on his first jump. He bounced back with scores of 86.50 and 85.75 on his second and third runs, respectively, for a combined total of 172.25. “Dylan was able to deliver in the clutch,” said Sandy Boville, Canadian team coach.

Reflecting on his performance, Deschamps said, “The day was pretty crazy. I had a pretty bad crash and got hurt, but I had to get mentally prepared and make sure I landed on my feet. My second and third jumps went really well. I went big on the triple 18, and I’m pretty hyped. I was scared to land in transition, but I managed to stick it. For the third jump, I did a switch bio – I had just tried it in practice, and it went pretty well. Being the third to drop in the final and having to wait was stressful, but I was just hoping to make the podium, and it happened.” Dylan was referring to the painful scrapes he received from sliding down the icy landing hill after his first jump crash. This event marks his return to competition after recovering from shoulder reconstruction surgery earlier in 2024

This is Deschamps’ second World Cup podium finish, following his gold medal last season on the same venue. Aidan Mulvihill, also competing for Canada, finished 22nd in the event.

The next Freeski World Cup events are Slopestyle in Stubai, Austria, November 22 – 23, followed by Big Air in Beijing, China, from November 29 to December 1.
