As we prepare to welcome the world to the Calgary Halfpipe World Cup—Canada’s only stop on the circuit—we do so with a bittersweet feeling. The start list this year will be missing a name synonymous with greatness: Simon d’Artois.
Freestyle Canada proudly acknowledges Simon’s retirement, marking the end of an extraordinary career in halfpipe skiing. Known for his fearless style and groundbreaking tricks, Simon has left an indelible mark on the sport and inspired countless athletes along the way.
Simon’s accomplishments speak for themselves: a FIS Crystal Globe, X Games gold, World Championship silver, and a two-time Winter Olympian. His performances have elevated Canadian halfpipe skiing to the global stage and set a high standard for future generations.
Now, as Simon embraces a new chapter of his life as a father, we reflect on his decision to step away from competition. “Being a dad has given me a new perspective on life,” Simon shared. “While skiing will always be a part of who I am, my family is now my main focus.”
We will deeply miss Simon’s presence at events like Calgary, where his performances always thrilled the crowd and brought a sense of pride to the Canadian Freestyle Team. While his absence will be felt, his legacy continues to inspire athletes across the country.
Thank you, Simon, for everything you’ve given to this sport. We wish you all the best as you embrace fatherhood and this exciting new chapter. You will always be part of the Freestyle Canada family.
