Canadian women representing in Freeski Big Air Finals at the FIS Freestyle Ski World Championships

The Big Air season wrapped up in a spectacular fashion under the bright lights on the festival grounds of the FIS Freestyle Ski World Championships in Engadin Switzerland.

Canada was well represented in the Women’s Freeski Big Air Finals, with Megan Oldham and Olivia Asselin advancing from qualifications earlier in the week. Oldham secured the second spot heading into finals, while Asselin qualified sixth, making them the only Canadian skiers to reach the final round.

The festival site, the historic Olympic ski jump site, was low in the valley and was easily accessible to the large crowds for both concerts and competitions. While being low in the valley allowed easy access, it also brought warmer temperatures which caused soft, collapsing snow conditions on the landing. Despite ongoing challenges with the conditions of the landing hill throughout the week, the competition proceed as planned with the best-two-of-three jump format. Both Canadians represented the country well and delivered solid performances, finishing just shy of podium results. Asselin placed fourth with a score of 167.00, narrowly missing bronze by just 0.75 points to Finland’s Anni Karava. Oldham, fresh off her Slopestyle bronze medal last week, finished fifth with 162.00 points.

Flora Tabanelli of Italy claimed the World Champion title with 176.75, and Sarah Hoefflin of Switzerland took silver on home soil.

Other Canadian Results:

Women’s Freeski Big Air

Men’s Freeski Big Air

  • Evan McEachran – 15th
  • Jeremy Gagne – 24th

With the Slopestyle and Big Air season now complete, athletes leave the World Championships and begin to shift their focus towards building momentum for the upcoming season, one that marks the start of their journey towards the 2026 Olympic Winter Games.
