Calgary, AB – Canadian athletes, including Freestyle Canada’s NextGen team and provincial team athletes, delivered dominant performances at the penultimate Mogul and Dual Mogul NorAm events of the season at Stratton Mountain Resort, Vermont this past weekend. Canadian athletes secured 8 out of the 12 available podium spots, with multiple top finishes across both men’s and women’s events.
Freestyle Canada NextGen’s Florence Laroche continued her strong season with another victory in women’s moguls and a fourth-place finish in dual moguls. Her teammate, Maya Mikkelsen, displayed impressive consistency earning silver in both events. Quebec’s Rowanne Godbout took third place in the women’s dual moguls, further solidifying Canada’s strong presence in the event.
On the men’s side, Quebec Team’s Bradley Koehler took first place in moguls, with NextGen skier Charles Beaulieu securing silver. Koehler’s teammate Louis-Philippe Bougie claimed the win in dual moguls, defeating American skier Dylan Marcellini in the big finals. Bougie’s victory was a standout moment, highlighted by his speed and precision throughout the day. Cole Carey earned third place in the men’s dual moguls.
While Saturday’s competition was delayed due to heavy fog, strong winds, and stormy conditions, Sunday brought clear skies and improved conditions. Despite the cold and the constantly changing course, Canada’s athletes were ready to take on the challenge.
“Obviously, we still struggle a little bit with weather, but the team handled it well,” said Freestyle Canada NextGen Coach Phillippe Marquis. “On Saturday, the fog and storm were tough, and the delays caused some challenges, but Sunday made up for it with blue skies, although it was extremely cold. The course was constantly changing, making it difficult to adapt, but our athletes did fantastic.”
The final Mogul and Dual Mogul NorAm of the season will take place at Val Saint-Côme, Quebec on March 7 – 8. For many athletes, the event is a key opportunity – NextGen skiers are aiming to earn spots on the World Cup team, while provincial athletes are looking to move up to NextGen. With the season nearing its end, the Canadian skiers are pushing their limits to maximize results and finish strong.
“The team is healthy and ready to push through this final stretch,” added Coach Phillippe Marquis. “We have some strong contenders, and we’re excited for what’s next.”
