Dean grew up in a small town north of Montreal named Sainte Agathe-des-Monts. This is where he jumped from being a snowboarder to a ski racer, to then follow his twin brother into mogul skiing.
At 19 years of age, Dean moved to Whistler to focus on his jumping skills in the Slopestyle discipline. He competed for several years while coaching trampoline on the side. Finally, Dean finished his competitive career as a Big Air skier, performing interesting variations of freestyle skills. He has since then retired after suffering an injury.
Dean decided to stay in the ski industry and focused his energy on coaching where he eventually got brought on to help with the jumping component on the National Mogul Team.
