Review the Need for SAIP, a document that outlines the importance of accident insurance for athletes. SAIP is valid from July 1st to June 30th of each year.
IMPORTANT ACCIDENT INSURANCE INFORMATION
is only valid during Freestyle Canada sanctioned activities and competitions, including travel to and from the location of a Freestyle Canada sanctioned activity, and coverage 24 hours per day during the time period.
SAIP will cover any gaps in coverage or remaining medical expenses in addition to providing worldwide assistance in medical case management. SAIP provides tertiary coverage. In the event of an accident, claimants must first claim medical incurred expenses through their Canadian Provincial healthcare plan and private health care plan (e.g., employment medical benefits).
SAIP Members are solely responsible for initiating an in-country or out-of-country claim with Zurich. Freestyle Canada will not manage claims on behalf of the claimant (see Insurance Claim Process for Membership).
Members are able to upgrade SAIP online through the registration system prior to training, competition or international travel.
The club/coach must submit an Out of Country Sanction Request Form” and be approved by Freestyle Canada to receive coverage.
Coverage is coordinated with any other policy and benefits are payable only for excess charges over and above any amounts payable or collected from the government healthcare and any own/parent/spouse employment insurance plan and/or private individual insurance plan.
TYPES OF SAIP
Class 1: Mandatory for FIS Licensed National/Development/Provincial Team Athletes who travel out of the country for more than 30 consecutive days, up to a maximum of 120 consecutive days. Recommended for coaches and discipline officials under the same travel conditions. In order to be eligible, an active Government Health Insurance Plan (GHIP) must be maintained for the duration of the trip. Coverage applies to consecutive days spent outside of Canada, and returning to Canada resets the count of consecutive days travelled. Multiple exits and re-entries are permitted under this insurance, provided each individual trip does not exceed 120 consecutive days.
Class II: Mandatory for all other FIS Licensed Athletes and Coaches, Non-FIS Athletes and Coaches, and recommended for Discipline Officials who travel out of the country for up to 30 days. An active Government Health Insurance Plan (GHIP) must be maintained for the duration of travel. Multiple exits and re-entries are permitted under this insurance, provided each individual trip does not exceed 30 consecutive days.
Class III: Highly recommended for Canadian Athletes/Coaches and Officials who travel outside of home Province but who do not travel out of Canada.
ClassIV: Mandatory for non-FIS Athletes, Coaches and Officials who travel to the U.S. only for training and competition, for a maximum trip duration of 7 days. NOT VALID FOR TRAVEL OUTSIDE OF THE USA.
Class V: Mandatory for non-FIS Athletes/Coaches and Officials who travel to the U.S. only for training and competition, for a maximum trip duration of 14 days. NOT VALID FOR TRAVEL OUTSIDE OF THE USA
INSURANCE CLAIM PROCESS FOR INJURED MEMBERS
Zurich Notice:
You or someone on your behalf, must provide us with written notice of the covered loss within ninety (90) days of such covered loss. The notice must include the name of the insured person who sustained the injury, the name of the primary insured, and the policy number.
